So you over indulged yesterday, so what! The worst thing you can do is wallow in it, and focus on how poorly you ate yesterday. If there’s ever a day to eat whatever the hell you want, it’s Christmas! Consider this your post-Christmas pep talk, cause it’s not over yet. For most of us we’ve still got parties to attend, people to see, places to go, and sweets to eat. The best advice I can give you is to not worry, relax and do what you can. I always try to do one fun, active thing a day over the holidays, whether it’s going to a hot yoga class with friends and family, skating, going for a walk after dinner, or helping out with the snow shoveling. As for my diet, same thing applies, try to do one or two things that you know are really good for you each day. I start by eating a lot of fiber in the morning to curb cravings, and so I feel more satisfied throughout the day. I also try to stay hydrated as much as possible so that I can differentiate between whether I’m actually hungry or just thirsty. It’s so simple, but it really can make the difference between having to do a total diet overhaul after the holidays, or just some minor adjustments to fall back into your healthy habits!
Here’s my favorite post-Christmas breakfast:
1 handful blueberries (berries help to detox the body)
1/2 chopped banana
6-10 walnuts, chopped
1/3 cup All-Bran Buds (they’re crunchy, satisfying, and have 11gms of fiber per 1/3 c)
1 handful granola of your choice
1 tbs almond butter or peanut butter with no additives (good fats!)
Aprx. 1/3 cup of Chobani Greek yogurt (high in protein to keep you full longer)
I eat this breakfast along with a GIANT mug of green tea. Remember, keep it simple and enjoy the holidays!
