To me, nothing says I love you like good food. I mean real food, not the sugar filled, waxy chocolates we’re told to eat around Valentine’s day!
My love bug, has learned when I pass him his plate never to ask, “what’s in this?” He knows I’ve made it with love, and with his best health in mind. He’s been a real trooper over the years though, he’s bitten into a lot of puck-like black bean brownies, and drunk a lot of sludge-like smoothies before I learned to make good-for-you food actually taste good. I’m glad he stuck around though, because now we really share a love for healthy foods and great recipes!
The health benefits of cherries are huge for such a tiny fruit! Some studies show that help with weight management and decreasing belly fat, are helpful for getting a better sleep, and can reduce risk factors for high cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes. [Source]
This Valentine’s Day show your loved ones just how much you care with my sweet cherry smoothie!
Sweet Cherry Smoothie
- 1/2 medium banana
- handful of kale (washed and destemmed)
- 1/2 medium avocado
- 1 heaping tbs of raw cocoa powder (I used ruby red cocoa powder for it’s festive hue)
- 1 c frozen sweet cherries
- natural vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/2 c unsweetened almond milk, or nut milk of choice
Step 1: Place all ingredients into blender and blend until smoothie and creamy texture.
Step 2: Top with hemp hearts if you so choose and serve right away!
