I haven’t done a “my favorite things” post in a while, but I found myself really wanting to share my new favorite app with everyone! A while back I overheard one woman at the studio talking about this app. We got to talking, and afterward I thought, “why not give it a try.”
I’ve been using MyFitnessPal now for 8 consecutive days, and I really love it! I’ve never been one to count calories, so at first I was skeptical about tracking every food I ate throughout the day. I was worried that by tracking the foods I eat, it would take the enjoyment out of eating. Much to my surprise it’s made me enjoy, and appreciate the foods I eat more! MyFitnessPal just gives you the edge to stay on top of your health goals. You can even enter your workouts! I’ve found it incredibly helpful to have my diet all laid out and organized, the simple math of calories in and out to maintain my healthiest weight, and a breakdown of foods. It makes healthy eating less abstract because the bigger picture is right there, ironically on your tiny iPhone screen!
One of the best features of this app is the bar-code scanner. I still don’t even know how this works, but it always amazes me! If you search a food and it’s not listed, you can simply scan the bar-code and the products name and nutritional information is inputted into the app! That being said the item in question has to be a packaged food to be “scannable,” but I’ve found that most whole foods or meals are listed already. Even some of my favorite recipes from my favorite blogs come up when entered! That way I know I’m getting a really accurate read on what I’m eating, and it’s quick and easy to record. Basically, this app takes the guessing out of eating healthfully, all you have to do is eat foods you love.
Have you tried this app yet? Would you? Let me know what you think!
