It was a yoga kind of weekend here because this weekend was the yoga conference in Toronto! I was lucky enough to have my good friend @sarahdeanneward visit from Saskatoon, and attend the conference with me! Sarah is a loving yoga teach out west, and is currently studying to be a holistic nutritionist. Definitely my kind of peoples! We had a great weekend eating delicious raw food, doing lots of yoga/Pilates, drinking a little organic wine, and taking in the conference.
We signed up for Seane Corn’s Detox Flow workshop months ago, so I was really excited when it was finally time to go! The workshop ran from 9am-4pm on Friday, and if I had to describe one word to describe the experience it would be INTENSE. Seane’s take on detoxing the body was physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. This workshop was not about losing weight, and fasting, in fact she talked very little about what foods to eat when you’re trying to detoxify. Seane’s ideology is that obviously what foods we are putting into our body are important, but that they are only half the battle. She suggests that emotional tension such as jealousy, resentment, anger, and negativity can contribute greatly to how our bodies operate. This makes a lot of sense really, it’s just not what we want to hear! Diet and exercise are hard enough, but dealing with our emotional baggage is a whole other kettle of fish so to speak.
During the workshop Seane took us through her token Detox Flow yoga series, that on this particular day took 2 1/2 hours! Again…INTENSE. The practice consisted of postures that stimulated the digestive tract, thyroid, and lymph system. We held postures for what seemed to be an eternity, but the practice was way more than the physical burn, I worked through shit I didn’t even know what there. By shavasana I literally had tears running down my face and I didn’t even know why! I just felt a great sensation of relief, and release.
Needless to say @sarahdeanneward and I got more than we expected out of our session so we decided to buy Seane’s Detox Flow DVD and I absolutely love it! It’s such a nice thing to do a Sunday to let go of the stresses of the week. The practice on the DVD is 90 mins of yoga so it is a bit of a time commitment, but so worth it!
The one picture that we got with Seane Corn turned out absolutely terrible unfortunately, so disappointing 🙁 I’m sure our paths will cross again, and I’ll be sure to snap a good shot next time!
