The Pilates teaser is a classic exercise adapted from Joseph Pilates’ original repertoire. The teaser is an advanced Pilates exercise that works a full range of the abdominal muscles in a dynamic way to really strengthen the core. 1 teaser is the equivalent of doing about 6 curls or sit-ups, making it the perfect move of the day exercise!
Start balanced on your tailbone with legs extended and arms reaching towards your feet. Chest is high with your shoulders down and the back of your neck is long. For first time teaser people you may want to start with your knees bent, so that the shins will be parallel with the ceiling.
1. Inhale hold your balance to prepare.
2. As you exhale begin to scoop the belly back and articulate the spine down down the mat. Meaning you’re not just collapsing back down onto your mat. As your back starts to flatten back down on the mat, your legs simultaneously lower.
3. Lying flat on your mat with your arms stretched over-head on the mat with legs long. Inhale as you bring the fingertips up toward the ceiling then exhale to begin curling the head and shoulders while simultaneously peeling the spine and legs back up into the Pilates Teaser or “V” position.
