The Penguin walk is a great exercise for the outer thighs, and promotes stability and balance. This exercise is low impact meaning it’s easy on the knees, and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The Penguin walk does require the use of a Dyna Band which are super handy to have around for stretching and various exercises. Usually you can pick one up for $5-$10 at your local Walmart. So if you don’t have a band, go out and grab one so you can do the move of the day too!
Tie the ends of a Dyna Band together to make a loop around your ankles. Make it wide enough that you can stand with your feet hip-distance apart. If your Dyna Band is very long you can also step on it and hold either end to create the resistance as well. Starting with your feet hip-distance apart, place your hands on your hips, bend your knees slightly, and take a big step to the right with your right foot. Step your left foot in so that the feet are hip-distance apart again. Take 10-15 more steps to the right, wide enough that you have to use the muscles in your right outer thigh. Then reverse the direction, stepping to the left this time 10 to 15 times. Do two sets.
