Back-to-school is a crazy time. Between coordinating school, extracurricular activities, childcare, work and insane rush hour traffic, there suddenly aren’t enough hours in the day to get your workout in.
And when the family is that busy, you don’t want to sacrifice time together in the name of fitness. That’s why I love the idea of kid approved Pilates exercises! Combine your workout with family time by trying a few fun exercises together.
Last (Wo)Man Standing
This one’s simple: try to balance on one leg. The last person standing wins! Then, do a second round standing on the opposite leg. Standing on one leg is a great way to strengthen glutes and shape the legs. Tip: Stay as tall as you can on the standing leg and press your weight into your heel.
You remember this one from childhood, right? have a race across the living room, using only frog jumps. This exercise builds upper body strength, core and lower body while getting your heart rate up. Tip: Try to land as softly as possible — remember, these are not elephant jumps!
In this exercise, you’re going to roll like a ball. This is a classic Pilates exercise that kids will love! It will give your spine a nice stretch and strengthen your belly. Tip: Try not to roll onto your neck and head, just stop when you get to the back of your shoulders. Keep your chin tucked in close to your knees so you don’t swing your legs.
