For me, summertime is all about taking in as much live music as I can. I love music festivals — the dancing, the enthusiasm and the energy of watching some of my favourite artists in the middle of a grassy field with hundreds of other people. But multiple-day music festivals pose a problem for me, a naturally oily-haired lady.
Over the weekend, I went to Evolve Music Festival in Nova Scotia. To combat my hair’s natural tendency to become oily after a day or two of no washing, I prepped it with my favourite all-natural hair rinse. Without it, dancing my butt off for three days would result in an oily mop of hair reminiscent of Joaxuin Pheonix circa 2009. If you’re looking to get more wear out of your wash this summer, especially if you’ll be hitting the festival circuit, brew up a batch of my signature recipe.
Fine Tune Your Hair — All Natural Hair Rinse
- 1/4 cup distilled water
- 1/4 cup liquid Castile Soap
- 1/2 teaspoon light vegetable oil
- 7 – 10 drops tea tree oil
- 5 – 7 drops peppermint oil
- 1 capful of lemon juice for summer shine and brightness
- 1/4 C apple cider vinegar (to rinse)
- Squirt bottle
Combine the first six ingredients in a squirt bottle and store in the shower for multiple uses. Simply lather it into your hair like shampoo, rinse well and then rinse again with apple cider vinegar. Rinse out the vinegar and you’re good to go!
Your hair will not smell like vinegar after it dries. Instead, it will smell sort of like fresh laundry. Your hair will be less frizzy and, since this all-natural blend balances your hair’s oil production, you’ll be able to wash less often.
