This weekend was so lovely. I stayed inside mostly with my man-friend, ate delicious food, watched movies, and read. While perusing the grocery store for my favorite kombucha, the latest edition of Shape Magazine caught my eye. Sharon Stone is on the cover, and looking mighty good for 56 I might add! I decided a fun fitness magazine would be the perfect addition to my Saturday afternoon lounge session.
As I flipped through the pages one headline in particular got my attention, “Posture Perfector.” It was an ad for the Up T-Shirt, the latest technology in a t-shirt that effectively corrects your posture. As a Pilates instructor my curiosity got the best of me, and I had to further investigate this product. The creator of the shirt is from France, and assures us that this technology “puts your shoulders in the best position aesthetically.” There are two bands in the upper back portion of the shirt that look like an ‘X,” much like physio or Spridertech tape these bands give tactile feedback to encourage better posture.
As a professional in posture, I really don’t think a t-shirt can effectively change your posture. I’m glad that posture is in the limelight though, and that people care enough to spend $170 on a t-shirt that may or may not help them improve it! In my opinion strengthening the posterior muscles of the body, along with the core is the most effective way to achieve better posture.
What are your thoughts, would you try the Up T-Shirt?
